LEGIONARY

I created a real-time cinematic trailer for Legionary, an unreleased indie title, collaborating directly with the game’s founder on narrative intent and shot design.

I was responsible for environment creation, animation integration, and final cinematic assembly in Unreal Engine 5. The piece was designed to function both as a standalone trailer and as part of a future crowdfunding demo combining cinematic and in-game footage.

Second Draft

First Draft

1. Pre-Production & Storyboarding

  • Collaborated with the founder to define narrative beats, pacing, and visual tone for a crowdfunding-focused cinematic.

  • Translated storyboards into a shot list optimized for real-time rendering constraints and Sequencer execution.

2. Environment & World Building (UE5)

  • Built the playable environment using a production-ready asset pack.

  • Painted landscapes, authored foliage placement, and refined composition to support cinematic framing.

  • Adjusted lighting and atmospheric elements to maintain visual continuity across shots.

3. Animation Pipeline

  • Blended and retargeted existing animations inside Unreal Engine.

  • Authored custom animations in Blender for specific shots where off-the-shelf motion was insufficient.

  • Re-imported and validated animations in UE5, ensuring timing and silhouette clarity for cinematic camera work.

4. Cinematic Assembly & Rendering

  • Assembled the full trailer in Unreal Engine Sequencer, handling camera animation, shot transitions, and timing.

  • Balanced cinematic presentation with in-game readability to support later integration with gameplay capture.

  • Rendered the final cinematic entirely in real time using UE5’s rendering pipeline.
